A second-hand house was transformed into a luxurious residence!

This double-brick building from before 1980 retains the solid and dignified characteristics of the previous generation's residence. The homeowner wishes to preserve these features while renovating and expanding the underutilized rear living room and garage.

An entrance space with a glass roof was added between the old and new buildings, allowing natural daylight to enter and serving as a transitional element between different floor levels. It also distinguishes between:

  1. The old building area - a quiet bedroom area, study, and living space exclusively for the family, and

  2. The new building area - an activity and entertainment zone for hosting guests and friends.

In the old building area, we converted the original kitchen into a study, which will function as an extension to the existing family room. The new addition is a horizontally extended space, designed as an elevated box with a distinct modern architectural style that contrasts with the solid appearance of the old building.

The interior space of the new addition transitions vertically: the upper level serves as an open-plan living space, including the living room, dining area, kitchen, and pantry (LDK - living + dining + kitchen + pantry), while the lower level is transformed into a garage and a family entertainment room (rumpus), seamlessly connecting the family's activities to the outdoor platform, fire pit area, and pool in the backyard.

We are grateful for the homeowner's trust in allowing WWAA to be involved in this renovation and expansion project, allowing our design team to showcase their transformative design abilities and elevate an ordinary second-hand house to the level of a luxurious residence!
